Cezar Dascălu

Cezar Dascălu has been a scientific researcher at the Research Institute for Quality of Life of the Romanian Academy since 2023 and holds a PhD in Political Science (awarded in 2018 by the Doctoral School of Political Science at the University of Bucharest). He possesses an interdisciplinary academic background, having graduated from the Faculty of Political Science (2010) and the “Patriarch Justinian” Faculty of Orthodox Theology (2011) at the University of Bucharest, as well as the Master’s program in History and Civilization (specializing in Contemporary History) at the same university’s Faculty of History (2012). Between 2020 and 2023, he pursued undergraduate studies in Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași. He was an EKD scholarship holder and visiting student at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen (2012–2013) and Westfälische Wilhelms University of Münster, Germany (2013–2015). In 2016, he undertook a research internship at the University of Opole, Poland, under the CEEPUS academic mobility program.

Areas of interest: The relationship between the state and the Church, processes of religious secularization, sociology of religion, contemporary religiosity, religious education in Romania, religious and denominational pluralism, inter-denominational violence, conflicts between religious denominations, religious fundamentalism and radicalism, antisemitism and religious discrimination, freedom of religion and conscience, the relationship between religion and politics, the role of religious denominations in managing social crises, transformations of religiosity in post-communist societies.
