Quality of life is decisively
influenced by the way in which the society as a whole sets up the
standards which define the decent living, and structures its values.
the functioning of the institutions and their legitimacy also
determines individuals' representations upon the quality of their
life.
RIQL's interest in the fields of
social values is a long lasting one. In 1993, RIQL replicated in
Romania the 1990-1991 wave of the
European Values Survey/World Values Survey,
including for the first time the country in the international flow
of large scale comparative social research. In 1997 we have repeated
the research, and in 1999 we have been part of the 1999-2001 wave of
the EVS/WVS. Then the 5th wave of the WVS followed
(2005-2006). Currently, the Romanian team is involved in found
raising for the 2008 wave of the European Values Survey.
In 1993 and 1998, RIQL carried on
two other researches included in international programs. This time
they were dedicated to the support for democratic values: "Attitudes
towards reform" and, respectively, "Democratization.
Explanatory factors of the political behavior".
Another important comparative
study devoted to the
democratic values in selected European countries was undertaken in
Romania by RIQL starting 2001.
Besides the above-mentioned
national survey, several small studies were carried out.
